Ten Inspirational Abstract Artists

The Timeless Profundity Of Abstraction

PictureUntitled (Grey) - 1973
There is a whole range of abstract artists that have inspired my painting practice and i've listed 10 of them here. Each of these artists approaches the problems inherent in abstraction differently so studying their work teaches me a lot. Whether hard edged and geometric or organic and curvilinear each artist is preoccupied with aesthetic and conceptual challenges. Sometimes the process of making is the content of the painting and sometimes ideas from the artists environment or experience become the content. I love how abstract paintings whether 100 years old or just painted recently continue to challenge the viewer. Good abstraction is timeless and will continue to provoke questions and inquiry far into the future revealing answers slowly with considerable attention over time. Their true value is in their unique painted structures which seem to live and unfailingly open out into endless interpretations and possibilities.

I hope you are also inspired by these great artists.

I have also provided some links to videos or PDF's that give further understanding about these artists and their work.
